The Deputy Minister for Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Hon. Eng. Maryprisca Winfred Mahundi, has called upon parents, guardians, teachers and the community to strengthen collaboration in the upbringing and development of children, emphasizing that quality parenting is the foundation for building a generation with morals, discipline, accountability and the ability to cope with various challenges in today's society.
She made the remarks on September 19, 2026, in Arusha during the 12th Standard Seven Graduation and the 8th Form Four Graduation at St. Monica Moshono School.
Hon. Mahundi said that a child's upbringing should not focus on academic achievement alone, but should consider physical, spiritual, behavioral and academic growth, stressing that a child's success requires cooperation between the family, school, community and the Government.
She said parents and guardians have a responsibility to be close to their children, to monitor them, listen to them and provide them with appropriate guidance to build their capacity to make the right decisions and cope with the challenges they encounter in life.
“The Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups continues to fulfill its responsibility of collaborating with the community in building an environment with protection, justice, security and opportunities for children. Moreover, technological changes have brought various opportunities for children in learning and accessing information, but have also brought challenges that require close attention from parents, guardians and teachers. Therefore, parents and guardians should guide children in the proper use of technology and build their capacity to identify information and content that is beneficial and that which may be harmful in their lives, as well as ensuring that the use of technology does not affect the morals, discipline and behavior of children,” said Deputy Minister Mahundi.
Earlier, while reading the school's report, the Head of the school Sr. Yuster Andrea Mbilinyi said the school has continued to emphasize education, upbringing and development of students to build them into people with discipline, morals and accountability in society.
Sr. Yuster added that in addition to performing well academically, the school has continued to improve the learning and upbringing environment for students by putting in place learning infrastructure and school environment.
She said the cooperation between parents and the school is important in ensuring that students receive upbringing and care that enables them to grow in a safe environment, while urging parents to continue to monitor the progress of their children and collaborate with teachers in solving the challenges facing them.
The Government will continue to collaborate with the community in strengthening an environment that protects and promotes the well-being of children, to ensure that they receive upbringing, education and opportunities that enable them to grow and become citizens who contribute to the development of the family, community and the Nation.
