THROUGH social media, a video clip is being circulated showing a man who claims to have been involved in the murder of the former CCM Branch Chairman of Itumbi, Elia Richard Sambala, 53 years old, a resident of Itumbi, Chunya District, Mbeya Region.
The truth is that on February 11, 2026, at approximately 1:00 p.m., in Itumbi Village, Elia Richard Sambala was found on his farm with severe head injuries inflicted by a sharp object by unknown individuals. He passed away shortly after being taken to Chunya District Hospital for treatment.
Following the incident, the Mbeya Regional Police Force, through homicide investigators, launched an intensive manhunt and successfully arrested two suspects in connection with the crime. Further investigations and efforts to apprehend other individuals involved are ongoing.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the cause of the incident was a dispute over interests in a gold mining area, where one family member leased the site to Chinese investors for mining activities without consulting other relatives.
The Mbeya Regional Police Force issues a stern warning to the individual claiming to be the leader of a group calling itself TFF (Tanzania Freedom Fighters) to stop spreading information that contradicts the facts and to cease misusing social media to distort the truth and incite criminal acts against institutions, leaders, and citizens.
