MBEYA, Tanzania – The National Chairperson of the CCM Women's Wing (UWT), Mary Chatanda (Left ) has praised Hon. Eng. Maryprisca Winfrid Mahundi (Light ) the Special Seats Member of Parliament for Mbeya Region, for leading the construction of a residence for the UWT Regional Secretary in Mbeya.
The project, valued at more than TZS 80 million, was financed through the initiative of Hon. Mahundi in partnership with development supporters and the Maryprisca Woman Empowerment Foundation (MWEF), a non-governmental organization dedicated to women's empowerment.
Presenting the project report, Hon. Mahundi, who also serves as Deputy Minister for Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, said the initiative forms part of a broader programme of infrastructure projects across Chunya, Mbarali, Rungwe, Kyela, and Mbeya Rural districts, with a combined investment exceeding TZS 150 million.
She said the projects were inspired by the vision of UWT National Chairperson Mary Chatanda to establish lasting institutional assets that strengthen the Women's Wing and support its leadership structures across the country.
"I chose to undertake this responsibility with the support of friends and through the Maryprisca Woman Empowerment Foundation because I wanted to leave a lasting legacy and make my personal contribution to the women of Mbeya Region," Hon. Mahundi said.
She added that the women of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) in Mbeya had placed great trust in her leadership, and that the project was her way of giving back to the community and expressing gratitude for their continued support.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Mahundi described the initiative as a sustainable investment in women's leadership.
"Chairperson Mary Chatanda will always be remembered in Mbeya for championing this vision. We are proud to carry forward your ideas and translate them into tangible development that will benefit future generations of women leaders," she said.
Receiving the project report, UWT National Chairperson Mary Chatanda applauded Hon. Mahundi for her commitment, generosity, and leadership in delivering the project.
"We sincerely commend your dedication to our party and to the empowerment of women. Recognition should always be given where it is deserved. Your contribution represents a meaningful investment in the future of our Women's Wing, and we receive it with great appreciation," Chatanda said.
She further announced that the UWT National Office will present Hon. Mahundi with a formal letter of appreciation in recognition of her outstanding contribution and commitment to strengthening the organisation.
Mary Chatanda is currently undertaking a working tour of Mbeya Region, where she is inspecting a number of UWT development projects aimed at strengthening the organisation's institutional capacity and supporting women's leadership.
